The IOE-ISH Centenary Taught Master’s Scholarships for International Students is a partnered-sponsored scholarship by International Students House (ISH) and the Mary Trevelyan Centenary Scholarship (in honour of the founder of ISH). So, the IOE-ISH Centenary Taught Master’s Scholarships are, however, for international master’s students from low-income or lower-income countries. The Institute Of Education IOE
First and foremost, IOE was formerly the University College London’s (UCL) Institute of Education. In 2014, the Institute merged with UCL and has worked across education, culture, psychology, and social science. Additionally, the IOE brace excellence through research and enterprise while creating a future that is inclusive and just.
International Students House (ISH) London
Furthermore, the ISH, as it’s called, is a set of lodgings for the 700 British and overseas students in London. So, each year, the house gives out houses to Fulbright Scholars and students from other schools, including UCL. As a matter of fact, the House and its partners award residential scholarships to the students.
IOE-ISH Centenary Taught Master’s Scholarships for International Students
In continuation, the IOE-ISH Centenary Taught Master’s Scholarships are for international students burning with the desire to further their studies in the United Kingdom. Again, the beneficiaries of these scholarships must be from low or lower-income countries.
However, it is important to note that these scholarships are not available for the MBA in Educational Neuroscience or for online courses, though. Also, the scholarships do not cover subsistence in London, travel, or any other expenses. And it is just for one academic year, as the case may be.
Eligibility
- To be eligible for the IOE-ISH Centenary Taught Master’s Scholarships, you must:
- Reside in an eligible low or lower-income country according to World Bank classification.
- In addition to this, have an official unconditional offer to study for a full-time master’s degree at IOE (letter issued by UCL Admissions)
- You must not have studied or lived in the UK before

IOE – Clarke Scholarships
Firstly, this scholarship is for teachers from South Africa. And sponsored by the donation from the family of the previous IOE director.
The IOE – Clarke Scholarships are:
- Available only for practicing school teachers from South Africa who wish to undertake a master’s program at IOE

- Return flights to London
- Tuition fees
- A monthly stipend for accommodation
- Stipend for Subsistence in London

Here, candidates must:
- Be a practicing school teacher
- Secondly, you must be a citizen or resident of South Africa
- Lastly, have an unconditional offer to study for a campus-based master’s degree at IOE

Summarily, these scholarships have easy criteria. As a matter of fact, you do not need to break your back before you can apply. However, be informed that the scholarship does not cover all expenses. But as a matter of fact, it is a good one, regardless.

Who is eligible to apply for this scholarship?
To be eligible, applicants must meet all the following criteria:
Be domiciled in a low- or lower-middle-income country according to the World Bank classification.
Have already received an unconditional offer letter from the UCL Institute of Education (IOE) for a full-time, on-campus taught Master’s programme in London.
Have not previously studied or lived in the UK.
The Master’s programme must be on-campus, full-time, at IOE; online or part-time courses are not eligible, and the MA/MSc Educational Neuroscience programme is excluded.
What does the scholarship cover, and what costs will remain my responsibility?
The scholarship covers the following:
Full tuition fees for the eligible Master’s programme at the IOE.
Accommodation for one academic year in a single room (with shared bathroom and kitchen) at the International Students House (ISH) in London.
However, the scholarship does not cover certain other costs, which applicants must plan for themselves:
Living or subsistence costs (e.g., food, daily expenses) in London.
Travel to/from the UK, visa application costs, and other ancillary expenses.
What is the application process and key deadlines to be aware of?
The process and timeline are as follows:
First, you must apply to and receive an unconditional offer from the IOE for a full-time taught Master’s programme.
Once you have the offer, you complete the online scholarship application.
For the 2025-26 intake (for example), the scholarship application opened on 15 January 2025 and closed at 23:55 (BST) on Monday 5 May 2025.
After the deadline, decisions are usually communicated in June.
It’s very important to ensure you meet both the programme offer deadline and the scholarship application deadline; missing either will mean you won’t be eligible.
